East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Fall Trout and Redfish Action in Crystal Beach, Texas
Speckled Trout Fishing in East Galveston Bay
We have been starting our fishing trips before daylight, targeting shoreline shell beds for speckled trout and redfish. Light-colored paddle tail lures on 1/8-ounce jig heads have been working well. Depending on where the fish are holding, we are also rigging these lures weedless or fishing them under popping corks with a 12-inch leader.
The topwater trout bite in East Galveston Bay has been improving, along with the suspending jerkbait bite. If you enjoy fishing with artificial lures, now is a great time to get on the water and try these techniques.
Best Fishing Locations and Techniques
We have been finding fish around rocks along the Intracoastal Waterway, grass lines near drains, and windblown points when conditions are right. These areas have been producing good opportunities for both speckled trout and redfish.
We have also enjoyed some productive days fishing open-water reefs in East Galveston Bay, catching speckled trout and sand trout. However, recent windy conditions have limited our ability to fish these areas.
Redfish Report – Crystal Beach and Bolivar Peninsula
Redfish fishing in East Galveston Bay has also been productive. We have found both slot-sized redfish and larger bull reds moving along grass lines and feeding on shrimp.
The best redfish action has come during higher tides with good tidal movement. When water levels rise, redfish move into shallow areas along grass edges and drains, creating excellent opportunities for anglers using artificial lures.
