
Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are around 74 degrees,
with average water clarity across the bay system. Spring fishing patterns are
settling in, and conditions have been good for targeting trout and redfish along the
Speckled Trout Fishing on the Flats
This past week, we focused on speckled trout fishing on shallow flats over shell, and the bite has
been excellent. Finding active bait has been key—if you don’t see bait or signs of life, it’s best
to move and find more productive water.
The most consistent trout bites have come using imitation shrimp lures and soft plastic tails fished under
Fish Smack popping corks with a one-foot leader. We are also catching fish on
Deadly Dudley Rat Tails and WacAttack Flukes rigged on
1/8-ounce jig heads.
Redfish Update – Crystal Beach Marsh
Redfish fishing in East Galveston Bay has been best along grass lines in shallow water,
typically in depths of 1 to 24 inches. Productive areas include drains, small cuts,
and points where redfish are feeding as tides move through the marsh.
