East Galveston Bay Fishing Report-May 21, 2026

East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Crystal Beach, Texas

Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are around
79 degrees. The biggest factor this past week has been strong winds, which pushed anglers into
protected marshes and back lake areas to find cleaner water and better fishing conditions.

Water clarity has remained average west of the Stingaree area, while conditions become dirtier farther east past
Big Pasture Bayou due to continued windy conditions.

Redfish Fishing Update

Redfish fishing in East Galveston Bay has been very productive along grass lines and around marsh
drains. The most effective setup this week has been imitation shrimp lures and soft plastics under popping
corks
with a 1-foot leader.

Anglers have been getting some of the most aggressive redfish bites of the season using a slow retrieve with a
“pop, reel, and pause” technique. Light-colored Deadly Dudley Rat Tails and
WacAttack Flukes rigged on 1/4-ounce jig heads have also been producing steady
action.

Speckled Trout Report

Speckled trout have mainly been holding over scattered shell areas throughout East Galveston Bay.
Protected shorelines and calmer water have provided the best opportunities for trout anglers dealing with windy
spring conditions on the Upper Texas Coast.

Spring Fishing on the Upper Texas Coast

Spring fishing continues to improve around Crystal Beach and Bolivar Peninsula, with warmer water
temperatures keeping trout and redfish active. Marshes, back lakes, and wind-protected shorelines are currently
producing the most consistent catches.

If you’re planning a fishing trip before the busy summer season arrives, now is a great time to get on the water
and enjoy excellent inshore fishing on East Galveston Bay.

As Memorial Weekend approaches, remember to always wear your life jackets and use your
kill switches while boating.
