East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Trout and Redfish Heating Up on the Upper Texas Coast

Fishing on East Galveston Bay is improving as spring approaches, with
surface water temperatures around 70 degrees and water clarity currently decent
across much of the bay system. Anglers are still finding speckled trout and redfish
in the marshes and bayous, but many fish are beginning their seasonal move into the
main bay areas around Crystal Beach and Bolivar Peninsula, Texas.

Recent trips have produced solid trout along shoreline structures, especially
around shell pockets and near marsh drains where bait is active. A key sign to watch for is
baitfish flipping on the surface—when bait is present, trout and redfish are usually
close by. If there is little bait activity, it’s often best to move to another location to
find more productive water.

For artificial lures, lighter jig heads between 1/16 and 1/4 ounce have been producing
best, depending on wind and current conditions in East Galveston Bay. Soft plastic tails
without paddles are performing well, particularly Wac Assassin Tails in Chartreuse and
Monkey Milk
, with color choice depending on water clarity and light conditions.

Another productive setup has been a popping cork with a 2-foot leader paired with an
artificial shrimp
. A hard pop followed by about a five-second pause has been triggering
strong strikes from both trout and redfish. Hard-body jerkbaits are also producing fish
this week and remain a solid option to keep in your tackle box when fishing the shorelines
and bay systems around Bolivar Peninsula and Crystal Beach, Texas.

As spring fishing season on the Upper Texas Coast continues to develop, anglers can expect
the bite to improve even more as water temperatures warm and daylight hours increase, bringing
more trout and redfish activity across East Galveston Bay and surrounding marsh systems. 🎣
