My Sunday Funday started early at the Bolivar Live Studio with a first cup of coffee around 4:30 a.m. and clear skies over Crystal Beach, Texas. As the sun began to rise along the Upper Texas Coast, a thick fog rolled in, but I was determined to capture footage for the Birding On Bolivar Peninsula Show at the Houston Audubon Rookery in High Island, Texas.
Driving east on Highway 87 through the quiet coastal communities of Bolivar Peninsula, the fog slowly began to lift. By the time I reached the rookery around 8 a.m., a few other early birders had already arrived. With the Sony FX30 and 200–600mm lens on the tripod, I waited patiently as the fog hung over the nesting area until about 9:30 a.m. when it suddenly cleared, revealing an incredible scene of egrets and roseate spoonbills in action.
I captured about 40 great clips before chatting with a visitor from Pearland and heading back to Crystal Beach by 11 a.m. After downloading the footage, I put together a short two-minute look at the rookery from today, Sunday, March 1, 2026.

How to Watch
Catch Birding On Bolivar Peninsula every Monday at 6 a.m., or watch on our social media pages, YouTube, and Bolivar Live TV on Roku and Amazon Fire about 24 hours after it airs.
