East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Trout & Redfish Action Heating Up Near Crystal Beach, Texas
Fishing on East Galveston Bay continues to improve as spring approaches, with surface water temperatures holding around 69 degrees and water clarity at typical levels for this time of year. Speckled trout are becoming more active across the bay system, with consistent catches coming from both deeper holes and the shell flats around Crystal Beach and Bolivar Peninsula.
Anglers are finding the most success by focusing on areas with active baitfish and visible signs of life, which remain key indicators for locating feeding fish. While the slot redfish bite slowed slightly this week in marsh drains and shallow backwater areas, a few oversized redfish were still landed, keeping things exciting on the water.
Top-performing lures on East Galveston Bay include imitation shrimp and soft plastic tails fished under popping corks with a 1-foot leader. Proven favorites like Deadly Dudley Rat Tails and WacAttack Flukes in light colors paired with 1/4 oz jig heads continue to produce solid results. On the flats, a popping cork with artificial bait using a “pop, slow reel, and pause” retrieve has been triggering the most strikes, while deeper cuts are producing better with jig heads and soft plastics.
As temperatures rise and days get longer along the Upper Texas Coast, fishing conditions are expected to continue improving for both trout and redfish. If you’re planning a fishing trip to Crystal Beach or Bolivar Peninsula, now is a great time to get on the water and enjoy everything East Galveston Bay has to offer.
