Surface water temperatures are around 68 degrees. Many mornings have started with heavy fog,
which has limited visibility on the water early in the day. Water clarity in
East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas has been extremely good again this past week.
The trout bite has been strong. We’ve had the most success using
Glacier White and chartreuse paddle tails on 1/8-ounce jig heads.
We also caught a few trout on pink and chrome suspending hard jerk baits.
Redfish action has been decent, especially around drains and shallow marsh areas.
Imitation shrimp lures and soft plastics under popping corks with
12- to 18-inch leaders have been working well.
Weightless Rat Tails and WacAttack Flukes fished over shallow
mud bottoms and shell beds near drains have also produced bites.
This time of year is a great opportunity to catch bigger fish, with fewer anglers on the water
and larger fish actively feeding. It’s a perfect time to get out and enjoy a day of fishing
with family and friends along the Upper Texas Coast.
