Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are holding around
55 degrees. Extremely low tides over the past few weeks have made boat launching and loading more
challenging, especially during early morning trips. Anglers should use caution when navigating outside marked
channels, as shallow areas can quickly leave you stuck during winter low-water conditions.

Water clarity has remained good in protected marsh areas throughout East Galveston Bay, while portions of the open
bay have experienced stained water due to persistent north winds.

Winter Speckled Trout Pattern

Most speckled trout in East Galveston Bay are holding near the bottom, especially around drop-offs
with deeper shell and mud. Fishing very slow has been the most productive technique. Chartreuse Wacky Fluke
tails
rigged on various jig head sizes have been generating the most consistent trout bites. Strikes have
been subtle, requiring anglers to stay focused and ready to set the hook.

The best trout action has occurred later in the morning as the sun warms the water. Even in colder water
temperatures, trout continue to feed—just less frequently—making slow, methodical presentations critical. Target
areas with visible bait activity, and if signs of life are absent, consider relocating.

As water temperatures rise during the day, some trout are sliding onto nearby mud flats to feed, offering
additional opportunities during late morning and afternoon hours.

Redfish Update – East Galveston Bay Marsh

Redfish fishing in the Crystal Beach marsh remains steady, particularly around drains and shallow
backwater areas. Imitation shrimp lures and soft plastics fished under popping corks with a one-foot leader have
been productive. Weightless Rat Tails and FishBites tails are also producing consistent redfish action.

Best Time of Year for Bigger Trout and Redfish

Winter fishing on the Upper Texas Coast offers excellent opportunities to target larger trout and
redfish, with lighter fishing pressure and aggressive cold-water feeding patterns. It’s a great season to
experience inshore fishing in Crystal Beach with family and friends.

The Corky bite in East Galveston Bay is also going strong. Anglers throwing artificial lures are
finding success with Corkys, walking topwater baits, and slow-sinking hard jerk baits when conditions align.
