East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Crystal Beach, Texas
Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are around
79 degrees, with normal water clarity across the bay system.
Speckled Trout Fishing Update
Speckled trout fishing has continued to be productive along protected shorelines and scattered shell pockets.
Anglers are catching good numbers of trout, although many smaller fish are mixed in with the larger females.
If you see nervous bait flipping on the surface, there’s a good chance fish are nearby. If there’s no bait activity,
make a few casts and move on to another area. Active bait continues to be one of the best indicators for locating fish
in East Galveston Bay.
Lighter jig heads in the 1/16- to 1/4-ounce range have been working best depending on wind and current.
Paddle tail soft plastics, especially Wac Attack tails in colors like
Rollover Moon, have been top producers for trout fishing this week.
Best Lures and Techniques
One of the most productive setups has been a Fish Smack popping cork rigged with a
1- to 2-foot leader above a shrimp imitation lure or soft plastic tail paired with a
1/16-ounce jig head. A hard pop followed by a 5- to 10-second pause has triggered some of the most
aggressive strikes for our fishing clients.
The topwater bite has also been very good during early morning and late afternoon trips. If you enjoy
throwing walking baits for aggressive trout strikes, now is an excellent time to get on the water.
Redfish and Flounder Report
Redfish action has remained steady along grass lines and shell areas during higher tides. Anglers are also catching
a few quality flounder around grass edges with moving current where bait is actively feeding.
Mid-Bay Reef and Bird Activity
When the wind allows, more fish are beginning to show up on reefs in the middle portions of East Galveston Bay.
This pattern should continue improving as water temperatures rise through the season.
We also found a few working birds over the middle of the bay and picked up solid trout underneath them, along with
some Gafftop, which is common this time of year on the Upper Texas Coast.
Summer Fishing on the Upper Texas Coast
Summer fishing conditions are shaping up nicely across Crystal Beach and East Galveston Bay.
With warming water temperatures and improving reef action, now is a great time to plan your next fishing trip
to the Bolivar Peninsula.
