After talking with Galveston County, we’re happy to Announce!
Step back in time this Spring Break as the historic Fort Travis bunkers in Port Bolivar, Texas open to the public for special unguided self-tours on March 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This is a rare opportunity to walk inside the coastal defense bunkers and explore the many rooms that once served vital military purposes, including radio rooms, compressor rooms, ammunition storage areas, and more—many still labeled with their original uses.
Take a walk through a fascinating piece of Texas history while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Bolivar Peninsula. After your visit, make a day of it by grabbing fresh Gulf seafood, browsing local shops, or heading out to enjoy the peninsula’s 27 miles of drive-on beaches. It’s a perfect Spring Break stop for families, history lovers, and anyone looking to experience a unique part of the Texas coast.
Thank You to Galveston County for making this possible.
