Fishing Report-Week Ending April 29, 2026

East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Crystal Beach, Texas

Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are around
74 degrees, and spring fishing conditions are improving across the Upper Texas Coast.

Speckled Trout Fishing Update

As in recent weeks, finding active bait is the key to catching trout. When bait is present,
fish are usually nearby. This week, anglers were able to catch multiple limits of
speckled trout from just a few small areas by stopping, anchoring down, and working the area
thoroughly with fan casts.

If you don’t see bait or signs of life, make a few casts and move on. The most productive pattern has been
targeting 2 to 3 feet of water over scattered shell and along
wind-protected shorelines.

Best Lures and Techniques

Top-performing baits this week include Deadly Dudley straight tails in light colors rigged on
1/8-ounce jig heads, along with walking topwater baits. The most effective setup
has been imitation shrimp under a Fish Smack popping cork with a
1- to 2-foot leader, producing some of the most aggressive bites of the season.

Redfish and Flounder Report

Redfish fishing in East Galveston Bay has been solid, with a mix of slot and over-slot fish caught
in the same areas as trout. Anglers also picked up a few flounder, adding to a strong mixed bag
along the flats and shorelines.
