East Galveston Bay Fishing Report 7/8/26

East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Crystal Beach, Texas

Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas have reached
80 degrees, and fishing has been very productive over the past week. Anglers are finding
good numbers of speckled trout and redfish throughout the bay system.

Find the Bait, Find the Fish

One of the keys to success right now is locating active bait. If you see nervous baitfish flipping on the
surface, there is a good chance trout and redfish are nearby. If an area doesn’t show bait activity after a
few casts, it’s usually best to move and continue searching.

Light jig heads ranging from 1/16-ounce to 1/4-ounce have been producing the best results,
depending on wind and current conditions. Paddle-tail soft plastics continue to outperform other lures,
with Wac Attack tails being a top choice. The popular
Rollover Moon color has been especially effective in varying water clarity and light conditions.

Best Speckled Trout Lures and Techniques

Many anglers are having success fishing a Marker 54 Glide Shrimp or soft plastic tail under
a popping cork with a 1- to 2-foot leader. The most effective retrieve has been a hard pop followed by a
5- to 10-second pause, which has triggered some of the most aggressive trout strikes of the season.

The topwater bite has also been strong during early morning and late afternoon hours.
Walking topwater baits are producing exciting strikes and should continue to improve as summer fishing
patterns develop across East Galveston Bay.

Reef Fishing and Redfish Update

When wind conditions allow, anglers are beginning to find quality fish on reefs located in the middle
portions of the bay. As water temperatures continue to rise, these reef patterns should only improve.

Redfish action remains steady, and anglers are also finding fish around marsh shorelines and protected
bay areas throughout the Crystal Beach region.

Bird Action in East Galveston Bay

Working birds can be found across the bay on many days, offering opportunities to catch trout and other
species. However, anglers targeting bird activity should be prepared to sort through plenty of gafftop
catfish mixed in with the game fish.

Summer Fishing on the Upper Texas Coast

Summer fishing is heating up across East Galveston Bay and the Bolivar Peninsula. With warm
water temperatures, active baitfish, and improving reef action, now is a great time to plan a fishing trip
to Crystal Beach and enjoy everything the Upper Texas Coast has to offer.
