Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are around
86 degrees. Summer fishing patterns have shifted, and we’re finding a few
speckled trout and redfish in the Intracoastal Waterway around structure.

This past week we’ve covered a lot of water, including the 40-minute run to the
Galveston Jetties, where we’ve found the most consistent trout action. We’ve also had
success fishing reefs in the western portion of East Galveston Bay.

Best Summer Trout Lures

The most productive lures have been MirrOlure suspending hard baits,
swimbaits, and light-colored soft plastic tails rigged on
1/8-ounce jig heads. These presentations have consistently produced trout around
structure and deeper summer holding areas.

Another top producer has been a Fish Smack Popping Cork with a
1- to 2-foot leader paired with imitation shrimp lures. Salt & Pepper soft plastics by
WacAttack and Deadly Dudley have also continued to put fish in the boat.

Topwater Bite Still Going Strong

If you enjoy throwing topwater lures, now is a great time to be on the water.
The topwater bite has remained strong during the early morning and late afternoon,
when cooler temperatures have fish feeding aggressively. Walking topwater baits continue
to produce exciting strikes from quality trout.

late in the day, targeting deeper structure, reefs, and the jetties, has been the key to
