East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Crystal Beach, Texas
Speckled Trout Fishing Update
One of the biggest keys to success right now is finding active bait. If you see baitfish flipping or “nervous” bait on the surface, there is a good chance trout are nearby. If you don’t see bait activity, make a few casts and move on to another location.
The most productive setup has been light jig heads ranging from 1/16-ounce to 1/4-ounce, depending on wind and current conditions. Paddle tail soft plastics continue to produce the best results, with Salt & Pepper remaining one of the top-performing colors.
Anglers are also having great success using Harvey Tackle Popping Corks with a 1- to 2-foot leader above a shrimp imitation lure. Another productive presentation has been a Straight WacAttack Tail on a 1/16-ounce jig head worked with a hard pop followed by a five-second pause. This technique has been generating some of the most aggressive trout strikes of the season.
Topwater Action Heating Up
The topwater bite has been strong during early morning and late afternoon hours. If you enjoy fishing with walking topwater baits, now is one of the best times of the year to get on the water and target aggressive speckled trout.
Reef Fishing and Redfish Report
When wind conditions allow, anglers are finding quality trout on reefs in 5 to 8 feet of water after the sun gets higher in the sky. As water temperatures continue to rise, this pattern should only improve.
Bird activity has also been showing up across the bay on many days. While working birds can lead to action, anglers should expect to catch their share of gafftop catfish mixed in with other species.
Summer Fishing on the Upper Texas Coast
Summer fishing is underway on the Upper Texas Coast, and conditions are setting up nicely for productive days on the water. Whether you’re targeting speckled trout, redfish, or simply looking to enjoy a day fishing with family and friends, East Galveston Bay continues to offer excellent opportunities.
