Surface water temperatures in East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas are around 86 degrees. Water clarity has been very good across most of East Bay this week, and anglers have several productive areas to choose from.
Trout and Redfish Fishing East Galveston Bay
This week we found fish along shoreline shell, offshore reefs, and marsh grass lines. Depending on the tide, weather, and time of day, each of these areas produced excellent fishing for our clients. That gives anglers plenty of options when fishing East Galveston Bay.
One of the biggest keys to success continues to be finding active bait and other signs of fish. Pay attention to what’s happening around you. When you find bait and active fish, slow down and work the area carefully. Making accurate casts and thoroughly fishing a productive area can result in multiple catches.
Best Artificial Lures This Week
We are catching fish using MirrOdines, soft-body swimbaits, and soft plastic tails rigged on 1/8-ounce jig heads. These artificial lures have been productive around shell, reefs, and other areas holding active bait.
Our clients are also having solid success fishing imitation shrimp under popping corks. A 1- to 2-foot leader between the popping cork and shrimp imitation continues to produce consistent bites.
Topwater Fishing Remains Strong
The topwater bite in East Galveston Bay continues to be excellent during early morning and late afternoon trips. Anglers who enjoy fishing topwater lures should continue to keep a rod rigged and ready during these lower-light periods.
