East Galveston Bay Fishing Report – Crystal Beach, Texas 10/20/26

Surface water temperatures in

East Galveston Bay near Crystal Beach, Texas
are around 78 degrees. Over the past couple
of weeks, unusually high morning tides have allowed us to
fish shallow areas that are normally difficult to reach.
When the wind has cooperated, these higher tides have
provided some great fishing opportunities.

Speckled Trout Fishing in East Galveston Bay

The speckled trout bite in East Galveston Bay
has been good when weather and water conditions line up.
We have been using light-colored paddle tails rigged on
1/16-ounce jig heads or fishing them
weedless, depending on where the fish are holding.

In areas with heavy shell, we have also had success
fishing soft plastics under popping corks with a
12-inch leader. This setup has helped
us catch fish while working shallow shell beds and
other productive areas.

We have found trout around rocks along the
Intracoastal Waterway, grass lines
near drains, and windblown points when conditions
are right.

Speckled Trout and Sand Trout on Shell Beds

Fishing scattered shell beds has also produced some
good catches of speckled trout and sand trout.
However, recent winds have made it difficult to fish
the open-water reefs in East Galveston Bay.

When the wind allows, these shell beds can offer
excellent opportunities for anglers looking to catch
trout on artificial lures.

Bull Redfish Fishing Along Grass Lines

Redfish fishing near Crystal Beach
has also provided some exciting action. We have
spotted and caught a few bull redfish
moving along shallow grass lines while chasing shrimp.

Good tidal movement has been important for finding
these larger redfish. When the water is moving and
shrimp are active, anglers have a better chance of
finding feeding fish along grass edges and drains.

Best Artificial Lures and Fishing Techniques

Some of our most productive artificial lure setups
for fishing East Galveston Bay include:

  • Light-colored paddle tails on 1/16-ounce jig heads
  • Weedless soft plastics for shallow grass and structure
  • Soft plastics under popping corks with 12-inch leaders
  • Fishing scattered shell beds for speckled trout and sand trout
  • Targeting grass lines, drains, rocks, and windblown points

Paying attention to wind conditions, tidal movement,
and bait activity continues to be important when
targeting trout and redfish on the Upper Texas Coast.
